Mumbai, August 9:
In observance of Plastic Free Month, students of Canossa High School, Shere Punjab, Andheri, participated in an interactive environmental education workshop organized by the Mumbai-based NGO Rise India Foundation.

The workshop, titled “Waste Less, Impact More,” was conducted on Wednesday and focused on practical learning around waste segregation, food waste composting, and the reduction of single-use plastics. The 40-minute session was led by environmental educator Ms. Ojaswi Naik, with technical support from Ms. Rajeshwari Phadtare of Phadtare Reliable Recyclers Pvt. Ltd.

The session included a waste sorting game, a myth-busting activity about common misconceptions around recycling, and real-world case studies to highlight the impact of sustainable community practices. Students also took a sustainability pledge to adopt environmentally responsible habits at home and school.

Speaking about the initiative, Ms. Naik said, “The goal is to empower students with practical knowledge. Waste management is no longer a choice but a necessity.”

Ms. Phadtare, who has been working in the recycling sector, added, “Creating awareness at a young age is critical. Today’s children are tomorrow’s changemakers.”

This workshop is part of Rise India Foundation’s broader environmental education initiative, which delivers no-cost programs to schools, colleges, and corporates across Mumbai.
